We must act now for a better tomorrow

Sustainable Children's Toy Blocks Through Strong Local Collaboration

The future of plastic is circular, so we’re working with our partners to develop sustainable solutions to meet every need, including play.

Bioblo blocks are designed to be safe, to educate, and to last, so that our children can have fun without it costing the earth.

Our concept

These children's toy blocks combine sustainability, pedagogy and innovation in one.

Sustainability

Use of polypropylene which is free of plasticizers, BPA and other harmful substances in combination with natural materials and colour masterbatches.

Pedagogy

Bioblo offers long lasting experience in the design of toy blocks for children.

Innovation

Starts in our brains, the earlier the better. These toy blocks trigger innovation.

Borealis, Wittmann Battenfeld and Bioblo join forces for a new collaboration

Borealis provides the sustainable Post-Industrial Recyclate (PIR) polypropylene solution NAV 128-02, which makes up the final formulation for the toy blocks together with renewable wood flower and colour pigments. Bioblo delivers expertise on toy blocks, the compounding (Fasal) and the tooling and WITTMANN BATTENFELD contributes with its competence in injection moulding.

Showcase at K-Fair 2022

01

Wittmann Battenfeld, our valuable partner

At the K-Fair 2022 the sustainable toy blocks are being produced on an all-electric EcoPower 110/350 with the new Unilog B8X control system from WITTMANN BATTENFELD with an 8-cavity mould from Bioblo.

02

Their technology

The system is designed as an insider cell, which means that the WITTMANN W918 robot, a conveyor belt, a WITTMANN S-Max 3 granulator and the protective housing are integrated into the production cell. The molded parts including the sprue are removed by the W918 robot and the sprues are conveyed directly to the granulator. There, the sprues are ground and returned to the process.

03

We care about our end-product quality

The finished parts are deposited on the integrated conveyor belt, conveyed to a form-fill-seal system and packaged. To ensure the quality of the parts, the production cell is equipped with the HiQ Flow application software package to compensate for viscosity fluctuations, HiQ Metering to actively close the non-return valve, and HiQ Melt for MFI determination. The resulting MFR (Melt Flow Rate) provides information about the flowability of the material.

Polypropylene Solution

NAV 128-02 is a transparent Post-Industrial Recyclate (PIR) polypropylene supplied in pellets. This product is an ideal polyproylene (PP) to be used where sustainability and circularity matter with feedstock coming from Borealis plants1.

By using of NAV 128-02 excellent stiffness-impact balance, and low-odour is being granted. This material is best suitable for demanding injection moulding applications where good flowability properties and easy-to-colour play a decisive role.

Bornewables Solution

The finished parts are being packed on site in bags by using the Bornewables™ material FB4370 from Borealis. This material is completely sourced from renewable feedstock derived from waste and residue streams.
